Title: Concidering new wheels...
Post by: Dogcharmer on October 01, 2006, 08:36:02 AM
I want to mount R compound tires on the Cobra R's so I'm thinkin about getting these for the street. They're 17X9 just like the R's, What do ya think?

Just ignore the square tires in my feeble attempt at photoshop, heheh.

Personally I think that car does not need ANY polished lip on the wheels.  A wheel done in the color of the trim and below the beltline would be perfect.

Any "bling" would look out of place.

Yeah, that polished lip does kinda jump out at you...

I love the way that car looks right now. If you got different wheels, something like the 03 Cobra wheels would look kinda cool, IMO.

Those are wheels are American Racing Vintage Torq-Thrust M. They're just like Bullitts except they come in 17X9 and I like the center caps better.

I'm also concidering another set of Cobra R's like the ones on the car. I'm also partial to the silver Mach 1 wheels. Really I'm looking at 17X9 or 8 wheels that are less than $200 each which limits my choices. I'm definitely not against getting another set of Cobra R's because I do like them alot. Just exploring my options, and I really appreciate the feedback! Keep it coming, I'm definitely open to suggestions.

I think it all depends on the car.  My '83 needs a little polish to blend with the rest of the car.  IMO, this one needs no polish, and would look tits with dark wheels.

(see if you can guess the route the 84TC will be going  ;) )

Now THOSE are some ed nice looking wheels, i think.
The polished lip may or may not make the "look"...just depends on the wheel I'd think, but to me, those wheels would work, and work well.

i love those! if i dont do 03s i might do those.

polised lip is a line of choice ill try and chop some with a lip and some without so we can have a physical/virtual referance.

Those do look good. The only thing I dont like is that it looks like they'd be a pain to clean... But not near as bad as the snowflakes on my 87!

I have been wanting to put those 10th Anniversary Cobra wheels on my car for quite some time now. But I test fitted one to see where it would sit on the car and wasn’t happy. Cobra R’s with a backspacing of 6.42” fit nicely on the front but these Anny wheels have nearly a ½” less backspacing so they look like they might stick out too far for my tastes.
If I would have been able to set the car back on the ground with the a-arm being in the correct position, it would have given me a better idea of where it would actually sit. Unfortunately I didn’t have a tire to mount on the rim to do that.

those look nice. not quite my cup of tea though. sn95 wheels look so natural on these fox birds. they look like they would tuck up in there decent enough. 17x8 wheels seem to be the ticket. you could swap to fox stang control arms as well. the wheels that had the desirable offset (hawk had some before he switched to those sick i forged sweethearts) are getting hard to find as they were discontinued if i remember correctly.

If the XR7 is stock then he already has Fox Stang control arms. The only way he can pull the arms in is to swap to a Fox Stang K-member.

It's hard to tell if I like the Cobra wheels on the XR7. I need to see them with tires and on ground level. I tried that same method with my 95 Cobra's on Darkthunder and I thought I made a mistake.

Check out wheel guys .com they actually have a wheel viewer for our cars( year specific!) & you select the paint & ride height along with wheel siz. You should be able to shop for everything like that!
