ok heres the issue... My toyota is overheating but its odd. Odd in the way if im driving normally 55-70 it runs twards where it says hot. but when i am ideling it goes back to where it should be. so now what could cause this?? the rad cap has a small tear in the rubber but not bad. im sure its the origional t-stat. and for safety reasons ie leaks its running straight water but soon to be replaced with coolant. theres the rundown so any help would be appreciated cz on sat im heading out of town so its needed to be solved asap! Sounds like an airdam is missing from the underside of the car
well i havent messed with anything under the frount of the truck and the lower valance is intact. its made out of steel to be exact. so i don't think it would be going anywhere and i havent done any offroading in to.
running straite water, its probley boiling in the system and not helping it any also. some coolant will help it alot.
Replace the radiator cap, refill the cooling system with the engine warm and running.
Because of the bad seal on the cap your system is not presurizing and operating properly.
Check your lower rad hose to see if its old and soft, if it is the water pump could be sucking the hose closed at higher RPM's ie. highway speeds causing you to overheat till you lower the rpm's

its a 1990 tyota Pickup. 4 cyl 4 speed manual carbed. but i changed the rad cap and put coolant in it and it has run a bit cooler but other than that its still a bit hot. but i do think there is an air pocket in there so i gotta bleed the air out somehow.
That's why when you fill it you need to let it warm up with the cap off and add coolant with the engine running. That will eliminate any air pockets trapped in the heads.
ok but now there is no air in it and it still goes to the warm side but not badly. but also now when driving 40 or 50 it stays normal till i hit 60+. Friggin imports! I should go bact to american vehicles:flame:
Yeah...blame it on being an import...
Something ive done with each car, is blown out the radiator from inside the engine bay with the hose. It helps get any junk thats stuck in the radiator fins out, and also, sometimes you can have leaves stuck between the radiator and a/c condensor.
