Title: when turning gettin a sligth stall???
Post by: tbirdera on September 26, 2006, 11:05:14 PM
Well as for some of you might kno i tried changing the tb and it didnt work out, so I went back with the old one. I cleaned it out very good and looks  just like new inside. I replaced the idle air control motor with a brand new one along with new spark plugs oil change basically, tune up. I been messin with the timing and idling and when driving the car once in a blue when im turning it stalls real slightly then goes back to normal making it seem as if i was runnin out of gas or something. What coudd it be?? Could it be that there is sludge in the gas tank?? or if that the gas filter needs to be replaced?? Or maybe could it be that i cleanin out the TPS sensor too much.  This problem is annoying. I have no other idea what it could be. Maybe fuelpump, which i highly doubt. someone help!!!

does it happen when your moving and turn especially when you are low on gas?  or does fuel level not matter?

or  does it happen when you are not moving and turning the wheel maybe in drive with your foot on the brake?

Is this at slow speeds or at all speeds?

At slow speeds it could just be the load being placed on the engine by the PS pump.

You said you haven’t changed your fuel filter so change and eliminate that.

Should the fuel filter not fix the problem; while parked on level pavement, with the car in gear, turn the wheel left and right slowly with your foot on the break so the car does not move.

If the engine stumbles only when turning the wheel, but recovers when the steering wheel is still, the idle kicker switch on the steering rack is not increasing the idle (via opening the IAC) to compensate for the power drawn by the power steering pump.

This failure occurs more likly the you would think.  If the idle is not increased the power draw the pump creates can actually stall a five liter engine at low idle speeds.

my first thoughts were the PS pump as well until a had to read over and over again how you tried to describe the situation.

I would hook up a fuel pres tester and duct tape the guage to the windshield and observe the fuel presure while driving.  Under a load such as acceleration or or in a turn and acceleration, you will notice the fuel presure drop slightly.  if it drops lower than 30psi, (which is getting really close to a bad number) then replace the standard bosch 60lph pump with a 1990 supercharged 3.8L engine pump(90lph).
