Title: engine swap help needed
Post by: firstbird on September 23, 2006, 11:29:00 AM
Well I have my car for sale but if it dont sell im gonna put a carb engine in it. Right now it's a 5.0 and I was thinking about putting a 351 or a 350 in it. What will I need to switch out if anything to put this engine in? I know that i can bypass the computer stuff by just not hooking it up. (at least on my other cars I could)

Hood clearance can be an issue depending on the intake and stuff you choose.  I think you can buy lowered engine mounts to drop it a little.  A 351 has the same transmission bolt pattern.  And you can buy 351 conversion headers for the fox body to adapt the exhaust system.

Well, first off, what year is your car?
If it's an '88, get a speed density eec from an 87-88 mustang gt, or LX 5.0, and the engine, as well. drop it in, fire it up, and go.
Don't forget a good dual exhaust, too. Think Stang H-pipe, and 2-1/4" pipes.
Lastly, you'll wanna put deeper gears in that 7.5 rear, or toss it altogether for an 8.8, either out of said Stang, or get a Turbocoupe (bit more work).
Also, don't forget a good tranny cooler, or at the least a flush n' filter replacement.

As for a carb 351w, well, some will say you don't have to, but I've read it's best to drop the tank, and put a regular (non EFI) sump in, the fuel lines will be a bit of a PITA, and you'll want to get the windsor/fox swap pan...up to you hoss, but i'd go with a decent 5.0, myself.
and as for a chivvie 350...i got a boat, but need an anchor, how much for the chevy jun..i mean engine?? :grinno:
