I remember this thread a while ago, must have been on the old board as its not here.
I still remember at the time of the first thread I was working at sprawl-mart *cringe* but got out of there (stopped showing up actually, quite funny, good drinking story) Worked at a call center for a while, activating sears cards, signing people up for capital one cards then moving on to selling internet service before I was fired, talked myself back in to a job then quit the next day (another good one)
For the last 4-5 months i've been working in a fabricating & small engine repair shop, definatally the best job i've ever had, small son & pop run place. We mainly build sawmills on the fabricating side of things (http://www.portablebandsawmill.com pics are kinda dated, mills are regularily updated/redesigned) but also do skidoo/atv trailers and basically whatever anyone comes through the doors and asks for. On the small engine repair side we do just that, quads, ski-doo's, dirtbikes, scooters, outboards, you name it. We also part out quite a few (pgsaw on ebay)
Its a fun job and its always something different, Like today I came in bs'd with the boss about his stolen truck and quad, then ****ed the dog for an while before making some washers on the lathe. Then I welded and set a pile of bandsaw blades, repaied a broken mill (new shaft & wheels) I then had to man the door for a while when the boss went to claim his truck out of the impound. After lunch I chased electrical gremlins on an arctic cat quad, prepped a mill for powder coating, unloaded a couple more quads for repairs, dug out a wind generator from the corner of the shop, then lit a KX80 on fire before sweeping up the shop and coming home.
Sounds fun eh?
So what do you do?
im a door greeter aka bouncer of American. thats right i said it im a half ass bouncer. i cant throw people out or hit them or tell them to leave put i do get to look bad at the door and scary little kids. it is tha most boring job on this planet and i hate it! it was cool for the first two months now it sucks. ive ben there for 6 months and this is my first job so leaving at this time isnt an option but i use around a gallon of gas to and from work plus lunch time drive so there goes some money before i even get there. i cant complain too much because i making 8.09 an hour to do nothing but stamp recipts, hand out ads and look good. pretty kick ass job if you dont mind being bored 20 hours a week.
I'm a part time computer operator for MedStar health in Baltimore.
Basically my job consists of showing up and monitoring interfaces for 12 hours. I'm responsible for swapping/ running back-ups, printing month end reports and some payroll stuff. It's a really easy job and considering I'm in college full time, it works out because I can do my homework, study and so on. Money wise, it's great for me. I'm buying a new car with what I'm making and paying other bills with some money left over. I've been here two years.
My schedule kind of sucks though, I have 2 days off every 14 days because of school and work. I pull 32-36 hours of work each week plus 3 long days at school.
i build race cars.
mainly open wheel dirt stuff. sprint car, midgets, mini-sprints. we do some pavement stuff too. same type of cars though; focus midgets, sprints, silver crown cars.
I'm a stay at home mom.....best job I've ever had.
I've also been a Hair Stylist, a cashier for a grocery store, and a prep cook at a truck stop.
I'm a kitchen bitch at a local restrant. I do anything from server to prep chef to dish bitch. But I get 6.50/hr for it. 4-9 after school, 9-8 on saturday if I want it and all sundays off
Basically I trace construction/engineering drawings in AutoCAD all day if left alone... but that rarely happens. On occassion I get to go down to the sites and measure every inch of space in the facility. Being the only guy in the whole office half the time I'm usually moving something or fetching something. Being the youngest I'm not really taken seriously half the time either. Everybody in there has kids as old as me. I fix the computers, network, printers, plotters, phones, whatever... I have to deal with engineers from sub-contractors because no one else will, and thank goodness Friday was my last day because it was not worth the measly 8 bucks an hour I was paid.
But I will say the best part was choosing my own hours. Flexible hours are worth more than gold to me.
I graduated from college in may and I can't find a job, course I also can't figure out what I wanna do for a living. Something like tbirdscott is doing sounds like something I would like to do, but I can't seem to get on doing anything like that because I don't have any credentials. Right now I work at sears, which is enough to pay the bills, but I want something more satisfying, that I can earn a living doing. I'm kinda thinking about going to a technical school or somethin, learn a trade, I dunno.
I work at Crete Carrier. A trucking company based out of Lincoln as a Lan/Server Tech. We have 3 trucking lines and 2 insurance companies. So if you ever see a red Crete Carrier Truck, a blue Shaffer truck (based out of new kingstown PA) or a maroon Hunt flat bed that's us.
Basically I'm a do all guy. I do servers, helpdesk, hardware repair, printers, faxes etc. I do a little of a lot of things in the tech field. Even a little AS400 operations.
tc
I'm what I'd like to call a "Cash Engineer" at Lowe's Home Improvement Warehouse here in Tucson, AZ. I enjoy my job though, it's a lot more fun when your surrounded by friendly, fun, and most importantly, COMPETENT people.
Scott why did you **** a dog?
I'm a freelance IT guy.
Semi trailer/chassis/container mechanic at a rail yard.
I work at a parts store chain. O O O Oreilly auto parts. Nothing special there. Answer the phone look up parts, fetch parts, sell parts, put on wiper blades, make hydrulic hoses, mix paint, deliver parts, Just all the basics there are in a parts store. I've worked for the company 2+ years this time and I worked for them one time before for six months until I broke my back. I've also worked in there acqusistions department traveling around buying out other parts stores. I think I have a great job even though I have to work until 8pm somtimes. Can't complain hangin out sellin parts and talking about cars all day.
I'm a production line welder, building railroad cars for National Steel Car. Been there for over 3 years now.
Next time you see a train, look for a small round logo, on it that says "built by NSC" And I probably made it. Great job. easy work, LOTS of welding. Right now I am getting $25/hour 40+hours per week + full benifits. But by the end of the contract I will be above $26:cool:
ah i deliver groceries. pretty good job bennies 12 bucks an hour. tips, in a truck most of the shift. so no manager to really bother you. and if your good and do you job you never get bothered.
only down side of the job is apartment bulidings old people comunities college dorms. all a major problem with parking and hard to find places. and we have some trouble areas we go to .
http://www.peapod.com or http://www.stopandshop.com and look for peapod.
I used to be a tech at a GM dealership, 'til somebody tried to stuff a Mazda 626 up my tailpipe at 50MPH. Now I build cop cars by day, by night I sell stuff online (sequencers, LED cop car lights, headlight flashers, etc). Actually because of back & neck injuries I only do the cop car thing part time now. I have learned much in the way of fabrication doing those cop cars - trying to make a prisoner screen designed for a Caprice work in an Explorer, trying to make a radio console designed for a Crown Vic work in an Impala, building dog cages for K-9 units, trying to install $50k worth of radio, computer and video equipment into one car, that kind of thing. I must say, because of this job I've gotten pretty ed good at welding metal and fabricating lexan pieces, and most importantly, thinking out and making up wiring harnesses - gonna come in handy when I rewire my car (already did come in handy when I installed the stereo, lighting and overhead console) :D
I also preach the virtues of seat belt use in my spare time ;)
uuuuuuun emmmmplooooyed :flip:
no really it sucks...
i just turned an application in at tacobell, joooooooy
I'm a fifth year senior at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln studying Architecture and Commmunity & Regional Planning. I should graduate in May and then 3 years or so for my M.Arch and my MCRP. I also work for the Engineering Mechanics department tutoring and proctoring tests for ENGM 220 (Statics) and ENGM 324 (Strengths of Materials) essentially the Construction Management and Architecture engineering courses. Anything beyond that moves away from Architecture towards Architectural Engineering.
I own my own company building telecommunications structures (towers) and celluar sites for cell phone company's and whoever else needs wireless solutions ie internet etc all over western Canada. I previously worked for a company doing the same thing but after 10 years I gained my own contacts and resources and decided to give a shot on my own with a good friend who had some $$ to kick into the venture. Now 7 years later we have 15 employees and things are going strong. At least I dont need to climb 600ft towers anymore thank god as i am much to old for that anymore...also getting a bit fat:D
I Detail cars at a Used Car lot. Which explains why my car is always dirty.

I´m a Pimp....i love my job....
Seriosly, i repair computers and study IT, still a long time to finish the university....
I work for Google NY, moved here from Missouri, and I had to leave my cars behind, which is the only part that sucked. Everything they say about Google being a great company to work for - double that and you're still short. I have great colleagues, awesomely cool bosses, and more gadgets than you can shake a stick at. I pull long hours, but that's because I want to, and because my work always keeps me motivated and challenged. If there was a way for me to live there I would (we have showers & beds, but they don't let you sleep at work for more than one night at a time), just because there's always so much stuff that I want to get involved with, but don't have enough time.
:headbang: :headbang: :headbang:
I work at Anns Choice(erikson community) it's a retirement and independant living for 62 and up. I'm a security officer/EMT. and i go to college. So i had enough!
Cable guy.
Actually I'm a quality control inspector for WOW! Cable/Internet/Phione.
I'm a contract engineer working for Caterpiller with the HVAC group. I know its boreing but it pays the bills. And no I still have no idea how to fix the AC in my car.
I work at Six Flags. Great job unless you get promoted. Then they ask for results while giving you nothing. I run 4-5 stores, and the guy who sweeps the paths starts out making more than I do.:screwy:
Yeah, it sucks, but I have no parking spot here , and a couple of New York winters would probably turn it into a rustbucket.
:o
-Co-Parts Manager at Rome Ford L/M in Rome, Ga. All the :birdsmily: parts you can eat while still maintaining a low overhead....:rules:
I drive something slightly bigger than my Thunderbird - A transit bus. The university students take me for granted and believe that I can stop on a dime when they charge out in front of me. Still, it's the best job I've had...
I work retail.
I make $5.50 an hour.
Anyone who is NOT uneployed make less than that? Didn't think so.
:brick:
4 years now... the past 2 1/2 on night shift
Industrial Maintenance Mechanic
right now I am making $9 working as a sub contractor for comcast. Basically I dig trenches and help people lay cable down. It sucks.
Before that it was musican's freind as a customer service rep.
before that I worked at the sears corprate office for like a week, and before that I worked a graveyard shift sorting mail. Before that I was a computer tech for emachines.
Less fun then any of the sound. Except maybe musican's freind. I got to play over 500 guitars in two weeks.
hahaha When I was working in the call center selling internet (including com) we always had people calling in bitching about the comcast guys breaking their fences, leaving wires hanging out of their walls, never coming back to finish the jobs and the best one was the person who had their dog killed by a comcast 'installer'
So now I know who is to blame :beatyoass: lol
Hell yea. I could never do that. I do spend a lot of time on the phone though.
Web designer.
BTW...why has no one commented on Jeremy's photo? That has to be one of the funniest things I've ever seen! Just remember Jeremy...that's how rumors get started. ;)
I work for Mycom North America. We are an industrial Refrigeration company that build refrigeration units & compressors for food storage warehouses, pharmacuetical plants, chemical plants, etc... Places such as Tropicana, Pepsi, ConAgra, etc.. are just a ferw places thta you know that has our equipment. I work in the parts dept quoting customers by phone, fax, and / or email; processing customer orders which includes pulling the parts, packing the parts and shipping the parts via truck, UPS, Fed-ex, dhl, etc...; ordering parts and compressors from Mycom in puppiesan, Mexico, Canada, other offices here in the USA, and other vendors for stock and for customer orders; and whatever else comes along. I have been working for Mycom for about 11.5 years. Not everyday is the same but other days I wish I was doing something else.
