Post by: 84 Fila on September 16, 2006, 09:53:51 PM
What rear would an 86 4 cly LX have? 7.5, 8.8? also trac-loc or limited slip? I know ware there is one very cheap and might buy it.

Most likely a 7.5 they didn't put the 8.8 in the 4 bangers.

See, what I thougth was they all got the 8.8 after 1985? but the guts were different. The V8 got trac-loc and the V6-I4 got an open? This is from the guy that told me it had a V4 in it so Thats why I'm asking

All of the 4 banger stangs are 7.5, even the SVO. The 5.0 cars got the 8.8.

More than likely a 3.73 gear rear.

Depending on the transmission- if it's from an auto car it's a 3.73 open rear...if it's from a stick car it's a 3.45 open rear. No trak-loks in the 2.3 NA mustangs.

All I know it the guy said it was an auto. For all the stuff I need for the Fila ( Int, Radio stuffs, some Suspention stuff) is it worth the $200 for the car?

4.10's didn't come in anything besides rangers.

As for whether it's worth $200...well, how much can you REALLY use off the car? I'm fairly certain almost no Mustang interior parts will work in a Thunderbird except for the seats.

I was thinking I want the seats, Instrment panel looks close, flor shift suto looks close to ours, the Radio, the rear end / suspention stuff like if they fit. After that I don't know. Hell I might make it a DD while I fix the Fila. Can't beat having the look of a stang while having 4 cyl gass millage

My Dads TRX edition Mustang had 4:10 with a close ratio 4 speed. Special order. You could see on the build tag where they had manualy stamped the numbers into it.

Well, what all off a stang will work. The seats, some if not most of the suspention. Is there anything else?

As far as I know , a freind is coming to help me on the 30th. I'm told it will at the least sit and run if not drive. Thats why I'm asking

The seats will work...BUT, you'll have to bolt 'em to the Tbird tracks, as the floorpans are different.
Cluster will not work w/o a ton of mods...you can use the Stang dash, bu unless you have wiring manuals for both stang and bird, i wouldn't attempt it.
Rear in a stang is narrower, and if it's a 2.3 stang, it's a 7.5 anyway. IMO..the 200 for it would be better spent on a carb and intake for your Fila..2.3 stang seats aren't that great anyway...

He's got an '84 - the rears are the same width. I wouldn't bother about the rear end though - if it had traction-lock it might be worth it, but an open wouldn't do you much good with your planned engine mods...

Alright. So seats are a maybe. The guages are a probaly not, ant the rear is a joke. If anyone has anything else to add that I can take or use let me know please.

Housings? yes...axles themselves? no.  The 84's still had the longer axles.

Not worth it regardless.
