Well my wife and i are thinking about possibly moving to Virginia. My sister lives in Newport news and my brother-in-law is going to be moving down there in a few weeks. I was wondering if someone could tell me if there are emissions checks or if they are just inspections. I currently live in rural PA and we just have a visual inspection of the emissions equipment. Thanks for any help

The areas listed as requiring emissions testing are all in the Washington DC area.
We basically just go through a visual... Northern areas do testing and have for 5-6 years...
I currently live in Newport News, about to move to Chesapeake. Depends on where you take it, but they dont do a sniffer test on it. I dont even have a smog pump on the bird and it passes, but then again like I said, it depends on where you take it.
Well I am an inspection mechanic in PA and if i move i would most likely be working somewhere that works on cars and eventually have my inspection license down there after taking the tests atleast, and my brother-in-law is going this week for an interview at Tread Works (or something like that). So i will most likely not have too much of a problem as far as inspections go.
