Title: Motor Mounts 1984 XR7 Cougar
Post by: midmichmicrotech on September 12, 2006, 11:41:38 PM
I have looked at the parts store and either I have a very unique Cougar or they show the wrong parts.  I am looking for the motor mounts as I said above.  What is currently in the car is on the right and left side.  It appears to be an inverted U shaped part that the bolts go thru them member horizontal.  This part has above it a block of rubber (looks permentally attached) and another metal plate that bolts onto the motor.  Does anyone have any ideas on this?  I really would like to get back on the project and get the motor in.  If anyone has a source or a clue what I am talking about please let me know

Thanks

Randy

OEM replacements are not available...

I make some aftermarket replacements with poly bushings
MOUNTS (http://www.turbochuck.com/images/Motor%20Mounts/Type%201/Type1_1.jpg)

You just missed a batch, but I might be able to get something together in the near future.

If you're looking for OEM, you'll have to try and source a clean used set.  The 2.3EFI Mustangs used the same mounts as the 83-84 TCs (and 84 XR-7s)

Hey chuck wouldn't the newer style 85-88 t/c mounts work aslong as you used the 85-88 bracket that bolts to the block? They should be the hydulic type mount. Also the only ones I've seen with the toruqe sturt/shock thing are the 83-84 models. I haven't seen those on the 85-88 models. Also what exzactly are they for? The torque sturt/shock things.

Nope.  You could use 85 mounts, IF you use the K-member adapter that goes with them, as it is different from the others.

86-88 mounts are right out....there is no bracket that bolts to the block, and the mounts are MUCH bigger overall.

The dampers were used on the 84-84's and the SVOs.  THey are there to help dampen the "flopping fish" effect the engine had  with the early mounts.

Trust me...I've been through all of this ;)

Thanks chuck I knew you would know. My only question is that I bought a 86 T/C motor complete and it had the hydrulic type mounts that bolt to a bracket that bolts to the block. I'll get some pics so you can see what I'm talking about.

I know what you are talking aout and the 86 is not the same as the 85.

The 86-88TC mounts are different from the 83-84 and 85 mounts entirely, they will not interchange.
