alright, i kno ive said i was going to do alot of things to my car..like the exhast, which tthe rattling stopped, so i didnt bother, and i said i was gonna try to get a cobra intake...and this is were stuff goes crazy. my engine has had some blow by to it...its not terribly bad, but its deffinatly there. and my father, whos a very expierenced machanic, said that putting this intake on would worsen the blow by and shorten the life of the engine. i already feel this engine doesnt have alot of life to it. so i figure, it'd be best to save my money and get a new engine, im not gonna do this anytime reall soon, but i wanna get it done somewhere between now and may(i figure i could make this ordeal a senior project). im deffinatly not going with a SO 5.0, i figure might as well make it faster while im doing this. so hears where the real questions begin...how hard is it to put a 351 in there, i really want the 351, but its crazy difficult, ill just go with a 302HO. are the 351's(probably out of a bronco) much stronger then the 302HO? i kno they are heavier, but does the power offset the weight enough were it would be worth the trouble? i know pretty much wats involved in the HO swap, and i can check other threads...but i kno nothing with the 351. any help would be apprietiated, thanks
To put in a 351w, you'll need the Fox-swap oil pan, and pickup tube, get em at summit or jegs...you'll want to use the Fox/351w headers too. Are you gonna go efi, or carb it? Efi will run a bit better, better cold starts, etc., but be more involved. Lastly, 351w engines were in trucks and vans up to 96. (and in some, but not many F-250 trucks in 97, and 98)
If you go efi on the 351w, you will very likely need at least a 3" cowl hood, too. A 351w from a 96 truck makes like 220 hp, i think 270 on torque...although i could be wrong. If you've got the 7.5 rear, better figure on an upgrade, especially if the engine will built up a bit.
i perferably would like it efi...what all is involve in the computer and all that if i go that direction, and i have 8.8...that should hold up ok shouldnt it?
so, i really want something bigger then a 302, so im really leaning toward the 351...even if it needs to be carbed, id probably perfer that(i probably wont be saying that come winter)...would a 351 bolt up to an aod? would a aod even hold up long?
p.s. bump
