Daniel
!! That's HOT!
hey man nice car. im building a bbf 87 bird and still neep help finding out how im gunna make it hook. can u post your suspention and wheel/tire combos up here? thanks abunch. awsome bird man.
Nice Bird! I normally don't dig the drag setup but it's slowly growing on me. :)
How do you like those MMR coilovers? Do you drive it on the street often?
Hey Guys, thanks for the compliments....
As far as suspension goes there is not much to it. I bought the MMR Coil overs about 4 months ago with the 90/10's. I really like that combo. My 60ft's dropped from 1.70's to 1.62-1.65 range. It would be a little better but I was having problems launching on the two step.
The rear has an old set of TRW drag springs with an airbag in each one. I really like the ability to adjust my ride height. Plus I can load the right side and drop pressure in the left for drag duty. My lowers are boxed and the uppers are stock. Hell, I am still using all the original bushings it came with in 1985. I didn't realize until last week how bad that was hurting me. I could only move my A arm about 4 inches.
When I get it back together I am going with tubular A arms w/ poly bushings. AS for the rear I think I am going to use an anti roll bar along new bushings for the upper and lower. Possibly solid for the upper. I need to check into CHE? rear suspension cause I haven't found anyone else that makes stuff for our cars. Whats your take on that company?
I have some engine shots but I can't locate them. As far as the interior I made a sheet metal plate that covers the face of the dash and I have Autometer gauges sticking out. I still have more work to do on it. The center console is missing. I had one, it had some broken tabs so everything rattled, I got tired of it and tossed it. I need another one now. It still has the stock TC seats but I am wanting something different and lighter to replace them with. Any ideas?
I have a fuel cell and battery mounted in the trunk (work still in progress) I am sure I left something out so if I did ask away. Almost forgot...The car really glides down the road. It really smooth and not rough. It prob would take a corner too well but I like straight line racing. Besides corner carving is what I have a bike for.:D
My wife was driving it to school and around town all the time and when I could get it from her I would drive to work. I have cross country w/ this thing so it isNOT a drag only deal.
xr7cat.. I will try to dig up a few more pics..
My God thats gorgeous!
Where at in Nebraska are you?? Im in North Central Kansas. About a half hour from the state line.
Here is the trunk w/ fuel cell and battery. I want to box in the cell so it will be flush all the way across the trunk
oops
I am up here in Omaha...So I guess about what 2.5 hours away? Here is an older shot of the interior. It looks better now but I can't find the pics..
respectable 60's for a stock rear suspention! alot of wheel or spin threw shifts? and what wheel/ tire combo is that. man i love a drag bird. really cool stance to them
If I leave with no boost it moves out a few feet and then breaks loose. The few times I left with boost it would burn right through to 3rd. The rims are 15X10 w/ a 6.5 back spacing (as you can see it tucks under nicely) and the tires are 26X10 ET streets. It should hook when I put the anti roll bar in and install new bushings front and back. In my Mustang it would hook into the high 1.40's after I put in the anti roll bar. The fronts are just standard 3.5's w. VW tires.
you think there is room for a 10.5 inch tire in there? and do you have a stock length rear? thanks for answering all my questions!
Yeah I do, I have 295-50-15 Futura Street tires on my other 15X10 Prostars that use for the rain and they measure 10.5 inches across the tread and if you lay the tire on its side and measure ground up they are a whopping 12.5 inches. They look mean from the back. (side note...I have rolled the fender lips and taken a small mallet to the inside) I figured everyone has done this but maybe not?
I don't mind the questions at all. Thats what the forum is for. Hell, I have learned quite a bit in the past few days from reading and asking questions and I have owned the Bird for over 13 years now....
Forgot, yep stock length. It measures like 53.5 from back plate to back plate which is the same as my Mustang. The axles measure the same length as an SN-95 axle and I have 9in drum brakes. I am looking for a disk brake set now to help spool the turbo on foot brake.
