Ok I am interested in gaining torque instead of horsepower so much. Any ideas that will give me more torque than horsepower? Or does most of the parts go hand in hand with giving equal amounts of each? And if you have a HO upper intake let me know.
gears?
You can have the engine favor either horsepower or torque by degreeing the camshaft one way or the other in relation to the crankshaft. Alot of aftermarket timing sets come set up for this with pre cut notches but you can do it with a stock set too. Just don't go nuts, only a few degrees. Speaking of camshafts you can buy one to favor torque, an RV cam for example, and probably any number of aftermarket truck cams.
go buy a set of long tube headers, and full exhaust. that will give u some desent torque.
Long as you don't make the pipe diameter too big.
Torque?

Generally any mod that adds horsepower will add torque, but it usually will add that torque at a higher RPM. With that in mind you can do such things as a HO upgrade, which will boost your tq from 265 to 300 and your hp from 155 to 225. This bump in torque will also raise the peak torque RPM from 2200 to 3200 RPM. Unfortunately alomst anything you do to increase torque will also drive the powerband higher into the RPM range. The key is to increasde torque at higher RPM's while not losing it at lower RPM's. In other words, you might drive the peak number higher but you don't want a lower figure than stock at 2200 RPM. If you can have your engine producing 300 tq at 3200, you still want at least 265 available at 2200, or it'll feel like you've lost some low end grunt.
Unfortunately there is not a whole lot of available options that'll keep a strong "bottom end". For this reason you can install gears and a higher stall converter to get your engine up into the "peak" territory quicker. This offsets a loss of torque at the bottom end.
cougar 5.0, that is the weirdest supercharger i have ever seen!
Best supercharger for a mostly street driven car.
I agree. Halfway to my fund allotment for the KB for the Stang!
RW289, what RPM range are you looknig to make torque in? You looknig to give a slight increase overall or a large increase over a smaller RPM range?
Just out of curiosity, why not the Roush one?
$4500 as opposed to $6500
Oh I guess I am looking for more in the lower RPM range. I want to get up and going faster than I am right now. Sure it saves gas mileage but I still want some strength.
Touche, I just looked it up also... you going 8psi intercooled or 5psi non?
I was thinking about getting some gears. What do you guys recommend, I don't want to go too crazy.
I'm going non. The non intercooled kit comes with bigger injectors, a computer recalibrator, a cold air intake, and a bigger MAF. The base intercooled kit doesn't. The upgrade intercooled kit has all the components and runs $5600.
The Roush is $6500....no injectors or MAF
This threads getting off course, my apologies.........
I assume your car has the 7.5 rear. 3.55's are not an option. The sizes go 3.27, 3.45, 3.73, and 4.10.
Ford Rangers came with any one of these sizes.
There is some good info here: http://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/Axles.html
Oh yeah if I could afford to get one for my 5.0 I would. Some day I will have one:D
With a aod 3.73 will be noticable,I'm runnin 3.45 trac loc now, till I get a chance to put an 8.8 in,When I find one close by.
hint hint anyone.
