Title: How DO I Pull A Transmission?
Post by: hundreddollaranger on September 03, 2006, 01:10:27 PM
I need (NEED! please) some detailed information how to pull an engine and transmission from a 85 turbocoupe. Can I keep them together and pull them out together? it's a manual. Thank you.

You don't need to pull the motor, unless you have a reason.
Is the tranny shot or do you need a clutch?

what are you doing with the tbird? and where are you located?  basicaly just unplug everything attached to it, dissconnect all the lines, and unbolt it. start by attaching the hoist to the motor, and putting tension on it, then unbolt the mounts, tranny cross member and drive shaft.

Are you putting the motor in the ranger and crushing the bird or something like putting a 5.0 in the I4's place?

We did it! no problems at all?! we got rid of the dash, and are now scraching or heads wondering if we need the wiring harness (the inside one) for the ranger. God Ihope not!!!! The engine and tranny came out together no prob. Thanks for the advice above, and hopefully below this post too.

To answer your questions:
A) 84 fila & nate: that t-bird was a POS.Got it for $450. It's a slavaged vehicle. The interior was shiet. Look at the pic. 125k.

b) turbo 88. Nice ride.

c) 88turbo. Yeah, don't take it personal. Think of me continuing it's life where it gives so much more enjoyment than it was. It donated it's heart to a worthy cause.

All of you. We plan on junking the whole car, I'm in Monterey California if you need anything. I'm worried about the borg Warner tranny fitting in the ranger. It's much more than I thought that the 85 tbird came with. I hear I have to bend a lip on the lower firewall, and maybe even shorten the driveshaft. ALSO, gotta change over the clutch so cable in  the ranger (get rid of the hydraulic) OR get a 87 - 88 tbird bell housing. Am I right??? later.

I'm junking it as soon as possible.... which will be untill I get my questions answered on the other posts at other places (like the ranger station) and I have no use for it.
I'll save the center caps for ya. 3 of the same, and 1 different. pics to come. The bumper cover huh... I think it's a pos. But I'll check.

I hope you didn't s the car with the Wiring Harness and computer. You will want all this when you install the engine in the Ranger.. I am putting a Bird 302 in my bronco and am using all the wiring. Just think electric Ashtray.. The digital Dash will be my biggest problem I think maybe not... I really hate to see destroyed Birds and Cougars.. well Mustangs also. that is why I don't go to the Thunder Car Races..
