Title: Hardened Aux staft with stock gear
Post by: stuntmannick on September 01, 2006, 02:04:10 PM
Hey guys, I want to get my '88TC goin this weekend and it needs a dizzy.  It has a hardened aux shaft and the dizzy on there has a brass gear.  Would a stock gear work?

Not sure what you're actually asking....

Can I stick a stock distributor in an engine with a hardened intermediate shaft and have no problems?  The current distributor has a bronze gear, the one I want to put in does not (it's an OEM unit).

The hardened shaft gear will eat the stock cast iron unit. It will also eat the bronze gear, but it will last 25-30K mi. You may get 6-8K mi out of the cast gear... All assumes a reasonable oil pressure(no more than about 60 psi), higher pressures will speed the wear...
