Title: Peeling Paint off the Trim?
Post by: rw289 on August 28, 2006, 03:47:39 PM
Does anyone know of a good way to peel the black paint off the trim around the windshield? It is in poor condition with little chips everywhere revealing chrome and primer.  I want to be careful also to not scratch the chrome underneath.

Don't know any good ways to get it off, but on my '86 I re-blacked it all with a can of matte black Krylon and it held up for 6 years.

Pull it off and sandblast it. Better use walnut shells so you don't mess it up.

I used a ser and sand paper. When I re-painted it I used etching primer before painting (very important if you want the paint to last and not flake).

He doesn't want to repaint it guys, nor does he want to damage the chrome underneath.  I would try using a plastic ser and maybe a heat gun.

They make a product called peeler. use that or maybe some aircraft stripper.
