if i get a H.O. intake and some 19 lb injectors can i just put them in or do i need to upgrade some other stuff.
i thought it would just bolt up but i want to make sure.
Intake - OK
Injectors - Need to swap to an HO cam and computer
Yah I just did the HO Upper/Lower w/ 19# injectors and fuel pressure regulator.
It runs fine sometimes, then it starts sputtering at others. I just took it for a ride for the first time and I'm happy with the performance but it almost feels like it's missing every so often.
so how much work is replacing the computer and how much am i looking at.
can i do the computer myself?
If you get it,Do you have it now?

what u smokin?? hahah
No it can't be done, I'm proof as I just wasted a week.
F the 5.0 it's 351 time.

F the 5.0 it's 351 time, gotta start reading and learning now.
cant just do the computer, need the ho cam as well. all or nothing realy....
just swap out the upper intake and tb. the lowers are the same. keep your 14 lb injectors in there untill you are ready to do the rest of the ho swap.
if i do the comp i will do the cam too i just wanted to know how had it was to do a computer swap.
Computer swap no problem, just behind right side kick panel, unplug old and plug in new. If I remember correctly the bolt size was some weird metric (7mm or something don't quote me on this).
As for the cam change, that's what's going to take some time. Plan on also changing the timing chain set to double roller. The stock crown vic type stretches and isn't worth putting back in. A new water pump is also a cheap and worthwhile swap at this time. Timing chain cover may come off easy or may cost you half a day as you encounter 1 or 2 difficult bolts requiring LOTS of patients with a breaker bar turning a few degrees at a time and lots of your favorite penetrant. I emphasize LOTS cuz you don't want to bust a bolt in the block (ouch). A little gentle persistence prying off the cover. I had one dowel that didn't easily release the cover and required persuasion to get the cover back on. These covers are known to break so becareful. Good chance to degrease the front and top of the engine. New push rods are also another relative cheap swap. Good luck. Its a cool feeling when you go thru this and hear it fire up the first time.
It may be a good idea to swap in an H.O. fuel pump also.
i dont want to rebuild it!
Yet, one day maybe.
cam, computer, intake, timing chain (what is involed in replaceing this)
optionial; push rods, water pump, fuel pump,
if i but a 2" spacer on the intake will i have clearance problems?
I have a 3/8" spacer and it bring the upper intake to the top of the fire wall.
If you need any parts let me know. I have just about everything you would need.
i need the computer, cam, and maybe the intake, iwas suppose to get one for free but it might not happen
PM me with an idea of how much you want to spend on the stuff.
what elsr is a good thing to swap in the process of this. Fuel rails? are the hos different?
with the new computer will that effect my odometer? or is that a differnt computer/memory?
do i need a mass air meter too?
forgot about that.
slamedcat said markVII are speed density, with is what 86s are right?
Timing chain is what you have to take off to replace cam anyway. I used my 87 fuel rails and hoses no problem. Changing computer didn't affect my odometer and rest of digital dash. In fact the avg mpg computer reading was very close to what I calculated. No need for mass air sensor if you get a speed density HO computer.
