Title: strange misfire...
Post by: 87badbird2613 on August 28, 2006, 12:18:52 AM
i have a misfire    like the car is slightly sputtering from 1000 - 2000 rpm only under light throttle ..  if i stomp on it it sputs for a split second then shoots like arocket.. only and slight throttle between 1-2000 rpms    any ideas..  i think my pugs are fouled and maybe i need a hotter plug any suggestions...

Clean IAC?
Otherwise plugs wires cap and rotor...
Maybe a vacuum hose has a cut or is split?
Just throwing some stuff out there.

I can't remember, is your car converted to mass air?
If so it's most likely the metal probes on the sensor that need to be cleaned.

Two days after your post, you probably already did this but just in case..

Remove the sensor from the housing. There are two delicate metal bars that take the reading that kind of look like two trapeze bars. They should be shiny metal but will look dull gray or black if they are dirty. Take a little bit of rubbing alcohol on a q-tip and gently clean them. It works wonders.

My car gave me fits because of this for 3 months before I figured out what it was and how simple to fix.

After you've made sure the MAF is clean:

1.) Check your plugs.
2.) How old are your wires too?
3.) Your tps voltage at idle may be over 1 volt as well.

I'm running 26's,I don't know if it will help you or not.
But if you take them out do a compression test,so you can eliminate a mechanical problem.Maybe to tight of valve, you will know more when you see the plugs. If ones fouled you will no pretty much witch cyl.might be giving you a problem, seems more like a small vac leak.possibly
