I purchased this car new in August of 1985. Eventually, at around 140K miles, it developed a leaky rear main seal and the wife ran the turbo 4 cyl out of oil. It sat out in my field for 7 years until an opportunity to pick up a drivetrain from a '94 5.0 Mustang came along. I converted it over to the 5.0, with a T5. i used it as a regular driver until a wiring issue stopped activating the electric cooling fan, and I parked it. It has been fallow for the past 5 years. I'm looking to swap a 5.0 into my 97 Ranger PU truck. If I can't move the T-Bird, I will cannibalize the needed components from the Thunderbird for that project. It has always been an Arizona car, lots of sun, and all the fading, etc. that goes with that..It has 280K miles. Asking 2500. Great project for someone. Locatd in Gilbert, Az.
I was having problems with my cooloing fan not working correctly in my 85 TC. After working the coolant fan relay issue, I traced the problem back to no voltage from the ignition switch with the key on. I pulled the cover off the steering column, and discovered the connector on the harness end that plugs into the ignition switch was disintegrating, and several of the wires were moving around providing intermittent connections. I purchased a napa Switch harness repair kit, but, as the harness connector was falling apart, it is unclear which wires (colors) go into which 'slot" on the new plastic harness connector. Can someone point me to where I could find a schematic and/or pinout of how the wires are connected correctly into the new harness end connector. I can't find my EVTM, or my schematic of this section....
I backed into a wheelbarrow with my 85 TC this past weekend and broke the tail light lens assembly on the drivers side rear. Anyone have something they are willing to sell be fore I hit the local wrecking yards ?
I'll rationalize the extra expense by telling myself the cheaper one dissolves when exposed to the bottom of one's foot...but, wait...they're both made by the same Chinese company...Dooophh..!!
I swapped an 8.8 differential from an '87 TC into my '85 TC a few years back. I recently developed a leak in the rubber brake line (hose?) that goes from the steel line to the Caliper. Checking with NAPA, they do not show this rubber line as available...Is this a Ford only part, or, worse, will I haveto have a custom hose made..?
I know this is an old post, but I am having the same issue. It sounds like the '89 'Stang harness I used for the conversion does not have an output for the DOL on pin 34. Do I need to pull that signal out and hardwire to the TripMinder? I'm getting crazy mileage numbers, and showing "0" fuel used...There appears to be a brown wire from pin 34 (need to double check that) and the voltage moves between .455 and .560 as I rev the engine. I hardwired this "output" from pin 34 to pin 6 of the tripminder. This, however does not reflect in showing any "fuel used" on the tripminder display...Any thoughts?

Anyway, No I have not yet tapped into pin 34 as my evtm made no mention of anything coming from pin 34, but the DOL could very well be coming from my A9L cornputer which Jeremy's link kind of sort of eludes to.
Now unfortunately I'm short pins to pin a wire into the main harness, so I am currently unable to test this theory. But, perhaps there is someone on this forum with either a digital dash or a tripminder that has converted to mass air and is able to confirm whether or not a mustang processor generates this signal.
In the mean time I guess I'll try and locate a harness pin (I junked all my old wiring:nono: ) so stay tuned? And thank you Jeremy for the Fuel Injection Strategy document that is much better than the baby.
I need a replacement horn button for my '85 Turbo Coupe. One of the 3 'fingers" that locks it to the steering wheel has broken off. I could probably repair it, but thought I would check here first...
As the truck had 50k plus miles, the first thing I checked was the Cam belt...put a new one on anyway, no difference. Exhaust seems normal, and the engine doesn't run hot. It runs well at higher rpm, where a plugged cat would most likely come into play....I dunno..
