Distributor- Get one for a 85 mustang 302 GT carb with steel gear
Ignition- order ign module (duraspark) for the same mustang. Other option, run GM hei module. You can request it using 78 camaro with 350. I went with the hei module over the duraspark myself. Coolcats site has a good write up.
Update. Its been on the road for a few weeks. I put 700 kms on so far including a 300 km highway trip. As antited 3.55 gears make for a very short lived 1st gear with the 1st the m5r2 has in it. I don't mind it now but may get old quick. I have been pretty gentle on it so far for clutch break in, but the power feels there. Except the back half of the exhaust I think it is done, currently 2 1/2 to 2 1/4 at the lers to probably less then 2 around the axle and exit. Maybe I'll do a bit more engine clean up too.
I have gone to the hei with duraspark for my cfi to carb conversion. I tried a duraspark module, but if I ran no ballast wire to the e-coil it would over heat. When I did run ballast it didnt put out enough spark. I wanted to keep the tfi coil. With the hei I ran orange to G. When I had orange to W, it would trigger the coil way to late. But I've been having issues don't take my word on it yet.
The shifter is still a work in process. I made my own version of this but it was to bulky up top to fit under the boot. I decided to keep to it simple and have made an offset shifter rod. It's to crude at the moment to Show. I'll take a pic of the consol tommorow to show you. Yes it was a bit of a struggle getting the turbo bird hydraulic pedals. But after a few months I got my hands on a set.
Yes I already had it Done. I considered alum, but figured cost of buying aluminum shaft and having it cut would probably be the same as Cutting a new shaft.
Yes, factory shaft is about 46.75 u joint to u joint. I think the one i had them make was 42.5. The stocker is pretty thin on the one end and was affordable.
Thanks everyone. The shifter is farther back. It sits right below where the where the center console starts, where the ash tray starts. I think I measured it being like 4 inches back where a t5 Shifter would be. Oh and Haystack I am using the acc brackets from my old 91 5.0 Bird.
Hey everyone. I have been buzzing around here for a while but never posted. I am new to the fox chassis but not new to Thunderbirds. I had a 91 5.0 sport and an 89 supercoupe(death by rust). About a year ago I bought a 84 tbird, with 91 kms, pretty clean with no winters. It was mostly original with exception of fox stang 8.8 w/ 3.55, factory stang headers and h-pipe. I drove it as is last summer and started ripping when winter hit. Thats about it, just wanted to say hi. I'll let the pictures do the rest of the talking. If i do it right..
