Thanks. Oh no, I'm keeping it as stock as can be. The only thing I would mod it with would be with option items of that year, if I could find them and if they would be worth using. You only live once, but it does help if you get to have a Cougar twice. Or maybe three times!
Yes you can use a newer radio head unit (or pretty much any head unit) with the factory EQ and amp. I did it in my Thunderbird. I've got a JVC head unit with dual USB inputs wired into the factory EQ and amp using the RCA preouts on the rear of the unit.
Can you use the EQ with a factory radio if it doesn't have the Premium Sound / Amp setup?
Cool, that's good to know! You all did a nice job on the car. No, not an after market radio, I want to keep the stock radio since it works well, but a factory Ford EQ that they put in the Cougars and T-Birds of that year.
Thanks for the welcomes. It is very possible that it was as I did get in KCMO. Thanks for the FYI. Seems crazy that someone would go to the trouble to put the trip computer in, but it's cool. I had an '84 XR7 with a 5 speed a little over 20 years ago. I liked that car a lot, but someone had to rear end me and totaled it out. But I did get a '68 Cougar XR7 to replace it. It's nice to have another one. It's like goin back in time 23 years!
Greetings. New to the place. Here's some pictures of my ride that I just picked up. 1985 with 16,500 miles. In real great shape. All the leather is in great shape, no wear or cracks. Interior excellent, no tears or fade. Still has factory radio and trip computer and both still work great. Everything on the car works like new. Lucky to have found it.
