Been a while from last time i hit a birt. I did have a cat run under my cougar once. Luckly I was driving slow and must have just knocket him around a little bit. Not to worry I LOVE cats (I have 4 of them). After hearing the "cathud" I couldn't find him anywhere, so he was a survivor.

I think I am going to go with the shortest list thus far with just three (3) cars. Two of
86 cougar (RIP)
01 Tacoma (present)
86 cougar (present)
--2004 Kawasaki ZZR-1200 I know, not a car, but it want's to be a cougar if it had 4 wheels.

CARB are great !! Every one has their own opinion on the issue. I like them both. This thread has some people going back and forth on the issue. If I ever have the cash to do a V8 swap I will go with a carb. http://www.moddedmustangs.com/forums/5-0-mustangs/52616-efi-vs-carb.html .  Granted I live in Texas where it is very flat.

Was the wooshing sound always there? Did you prime the master cylinder be4 you installed it?

Back when I was a teen, I would take my couguar (86 5.0 w/ AOD) to the 1/8 mile track. The guys there taught me to shift down to 1. When I was read for second gear, shift up to D then back down to 1, then back up to D for 3rd gear. On 1/8 mile tack only needed the first two gears if I remember. If you want to experiment. Try it out in low speeds to where you won't hurt anything form.

I had to use a torch as well. I put the control arm in the shop press with a 5/8' rod and 1in socket. Then heated the shell up and it just came right out. I guess the heat gelled the rubber to where it would slip out of the shell.

I order them up. The shell doesn't look like it really come out that easy. I think they are the same as the 87. I will be using controll arms off a 88 stang, orginial ones ( in the pic) are really rusty. The stang arems appear to be exact match.

I removed the old ruber bushing in 86'. The new bushing have a metal sleve. I am wondering if I got the wrong bushing.

Thanks for the help. I found a set on a mustange website, has the lower lube you slip on and the upper.

In my feeble attempt to install new bushings on the front lower control arms I ran into a snag. When removing the old coil(s) the driver side coil was broken. I will assume it has been broken for some time due to the amount of rust in-between the breaking points. The break point happened on the lower potion incased in rubber.

Onto the question. I ordered new front coils and the new coils do not have a rubber casing on the lower portion of the coil (portion that seat on top of the control arm). Is this rubber "optional"?
