Engine Tech / Classic lack of gas problem
Yeah, the tank's coming out, although it was stored dry, I put gas in it two years ago when I first got it.

Either way, the tank's going to get cleaned, the pump replaced.

Engine Tech / Classic lack of gas problem
I'm sure it's been covered here before, as common a problem I've heard it is with Fox cars, but.......

My 87 5.0 'Bird doesn't seem to be getting any fuel to the engine. It cranks, but no fire.

Had this same prob with an 85 Fox LTD II, and heard all the talk about the hidden re-set switch in the trunk (never found one) and the same for the 'Bird (haven't looked yet) But since 99% of the answers to car problems I face turn out not to be the easiest or most obvious, I figure I'll ask now where else to look and what upgrades it might pay to make if I'm going to be getting into the fuel system anyway, to keep it from happening again in the future.

This is the reason the previous owner parked the car and and abandon it at only 50,000 miles....a older fella who was used to fixing his own cars, but was used to old carbed motors, got frusterated over what's probably a simple fuel injection/pump/relay fix, and parked it in his carport for 14 years. So if I can get it fixed and running, it'll be a big plus in the car's comeback, and a big head start for me to begin with a low-milage car and drivetrain. unfortunately, I'm an old carb guy myself, and this being my first EFI 5.0, I figured I ask those with experience, so I don't waste alot of time looking in the wrong places and trial-by-error repairs.

If your not careful, your 2 T-Birds projects might turn into 5 T-Birds projects like me....lol

LOL. I'm already a der, just not one particular make or model.

I've owned over 150 cars since I started driving back in '78, and right now, I've got 20 cars, drivers and/or projects.

I seem to have alot of pairs....two 'Birds, two Mavericks, two Interceptors,...and if you count parts cars, two Galaxies, two Malibus, and two Malibu wagons.

I see your Mav. has a Grabber hood, is it one? My parents had a grabber when I was a kid, I wanted it to be my first car but they felt differently

Cool to see somebody else who's into Mavericks.

A Maverick was my first car. My mom bought it new, handed it down to me. All these years, all those cars, no Mavericks, so, I finally got nostialgic and bought the two to make at least one, and do it like I wanted to build my first one but never had the chance.

Neither are Grabbers, but I've collected most all the Grabber parts for the blue one I'm building a street car out of.

Here's some pics of the Mavs and some of my other projects, until I get the Birds out and photo'd (and these are just the Fords!)

Welcome aboard. Yours ain't four-eyed, but they're Foxes. That'll do.

Actually, I have a 4-eyed project too, it just isn't a 'Bird

Welcome. the 5.0L swap in the 3.8L will be easy, I have done that before... I also swapped a 5 speed in at the same time. had it up and running in a day.

Cool! I know who to bug for advice!  ;)

I've actually been up to my eyes in Ford projects lately ('98 & '00 Crown Vic Interceptors, the above '83 ragtop Mustang, a '78 Mustang II Mach-1, '69 1/2 & 70 Mavericks, and a 64 Galaxie 500 2-dr.)....got some Chevies too, but the Blue Ovals have been getting all my time, might as well keep with the theme since I'm already in it.

Thanks again, everyone

Hi.

Was getting ready to drag out my two T-bird projects, this site looked like the best for info, advice and ideas.

Looks like I was right.

~~~~~~~~~~~~
-88 standard V-6 T-Bird, AOD (plans for a V-8 swap, lots of suspension and cosmetic mods, street car)
-87 5.0 LX, AOD (nicely optioned, low milage, been sitting, got it dirt cheap, would like to fix it up mostly stock with some minor  personalized touches)
I'll post more pics after I get them out of the thick and cleaned up a bit.
