FLSTCI71- Thanks...when I first bought the car it was dark dark silver with a flat black hood cutout, representative of the old Mach 1. I liked it and carried it over to the new paint scheme.
The other color scheme I had was the burnt orange you see on a lot of newer cars and a metallic black lower at the bumper line, but again with the metallic black hood cutout. My kids didn't really like that one too much...and it seems that burnt orange is being overused today. I like the paint...matches the uniqueness of the whole car.
I believe y'all have completely missed the mark on what I am trying to say here.
I belong to a Mustang club and when we all cruise somewhere I tend to be about 3/4 of the way back in line. I do this with intention...I like to hear the "music" all of the V8s in front of me put out. Super charged Cobras, 4.6 GTs, and 5.0s.....all of them have some unique sounds, and I can sometimes pick out who has just "nailed it" by the sound of their car.
My car can take a stock, and even slightly warmed over, 4.6 and 5.0...maybe one day real soon I'll even take a stock S/C Cobra.
My first "new" car at the age of 21 was a 1986 TurboCoupe. I "salivated" everytime I saw one go down the road. I finally saved the money and bought mine...thoroughly loved the car. Only got rid of it (first mistake) just to cut bills before I got married (second mistake), some said I was married to the car. I showed them I wasn't and traded it in...on an Escort GT, (third mistake). Boy, I really showed them!!! Today the wife is gone, but something is telling me if I kept the car, it might be still around. If I was able to track it down today...I would buy it back in a heartbeat.
So yes, I am a T-Bird guy at heart too.
The vehicle I had before this car was a 1984 Ranger, with a built 86 5.0 roller motor in it, FMX 3 speed auto trans, and 4.11 rear. It got 8 MPG on a good day. When gas went through the roof last year, right at $4.00 per gallon here, I said enough is enough, and sold it to buy this car.
The real point I'm making here is IF YOU ONLY GO BY SOUND, YOU'RE LIKELY TO GET BEAT. I have, and when it happens, I take my medicine too.
I hope I cleared this up...not wanting to cause hard feelings here, just making a point.
I meant do I sense some jealousy in the fact that my "gutted tin box", which in fact has a full interior, weighs in at about 2500 lbs. Nothing poking fun at performance. I had 2 1986 TurboCoupes I know they are hefty cars, AND I thoroughly like the ride of one as well.
As I stated earlier, I like the sound of a V8......but you can't always go by sound. My car sounds like a 4 cyl.....but don"t treat it like one. You"ll likely get beat.
TurboCoupe50- My cars weighs approx 2500#. Full interior (racing buckets) full back seat, carpet, radio, etc.... No 4 cyl in a gutted tin box here dude.
I happen to like the sound of a V8...don't get me wrong. But if sound is ALL you go by then....sometimes you lose. :burnout:
1Bad88tbird- you get it...some 4 cyl = bad news for some V8s
motorsport007 Thanks......That is a good looking ride also. Another one that looks so natural. I know Ford didn't make it cause the SVO was meant to be a road racer and there would be no way to stiffen the body enough to make it handle like it should, without going through major re-tooling.
I bought mine converted like it is, and have fun beating up on V-8s with it. When I bought it the motor was stock, but as you can see it is far from that now. lol I am not a fan of beating up on my Blue Oval Brotheren, but every once in a while you find some dumb people driving them.
In the mean time I'll have fun driving it, turning heads, and watching others scratching theirs. It's funny that the younger crowd asks "it looks like a Mustang but it's not, so what is it?" hahaha
Thanks... I posted other pics of it under user rides last week, I guess you saw better pics there.I've been all through TurboFord as a "spectator", but now hopefully I can be an active partint and get to ask questions instead of just look at what everybody else has asked and hope to pull the info from that.
Well for the longest time I couldn't get on to TurboFord because I didn't have what they call a "valid" email address. ie not a hotmail, yahoo, gmail, aol, and the like. Yesterday i was able to "borrow" a "valid" email address from a family member who wasn't using it, and now I'm waiting for approval from the administrators.
I'm trying to reference ALL sights, because it ishiznit and miss on whether you get good and correct information from any one person. The more info the better.
Thanks for the link, I'll be sorting through it. The main info I'm looking for would be wiring and hookup to my computer. Bolting in the parts is the easy part to this conversion, it's making everything work together that seems to be the hard part. Especially since the PE and LA3 weren't made for MAF.
Has anyone here done the conversion. I believe the VAM is a major bottleneck for my setup and need to convert this to get better performance from my engine.
I have both the PE computer in the car with an SCT chip, and an LA3 computer on a shelf in the garage. Which will handle this conversion better. Most likely going with an 80mm MAF.
I really need a STEP BY STEP on how to do this, in very simple terms, from someone who is sure of themselves. PLEASE NO "I THINK THIS IS HOW YOU DO IT" GUYS.
If anyone is interested I posted the link to the flyer for the Silver Springs Florida show in the events section. What a better excuse togo to Florida in the cold of January...AND to see 1500-2000 hot and rare Fords and Mustangs.
