Engine Tech / Motor Mount breaks AGAIN...oh the humanity
It's been the driver's side mount every time... car had been hit in the front before I bought it... I can tell because it had a new grille and the front bumper cover had been repainted - it looked like just a light tap, but maybe something got tweaked.  Bought the car from the original owner- little old lady from Granada Hills (just north of Pasadena, seriously).  I haven't taken a look at the trans mount.

Engine Tech / Motor Mount breaks AGAIN...oh the humanity
I just took the last one that broke out to look at it - looks fine from the outside, but my mechanic said it was def. broken.  The car now makes the same noise it did last time it broke - makes a clunking noise when you come to a stop quickly.

Chuck's motor mounts look awesome - I hope he's making up more soon.

Engine Tech / Motor Mount breaks AGAIN...oh the humanity
I've had my '88 Tbird Sport 5.0 for a year now, and my third new motor mount just broke.  Are all the parts from the parts stores coming from China, or is my mechanic doing something wrong when he installs them ?  I told him I don't mind paying a little extra for quality parts.  Does anyone have any suggestions ?  Ohhh, the humanity.

General Fox T-Bird/Cougar Discussion / Roof racks for a TBird ?
No - had NO plans of drilling holes in the roof...I was talking about the inside of the door jamb, if you read back.  I just don't want the roof racks to go flying if there is nothing but tension holding the brackets on.

Thanks for the info, Gumby ! I will check out Yakima.

General Fox T-Bird/Cougar Discussion / Roof racks for a TBird ?
Sorry, didn't mean to offend.  Here in California, every 5th car has a roof rack on it for surfboards, skis, snowboards, etc.  I sold my truck that was getting 12 to 16 MPG and am happily getting an average of 22 plus MPG in my Thunderbird.  I'm not going to buy a second vehicle just to carry a few 2x4's home every now and then.  If I put the snowboards in the trunk, it leaves less room for luggage.  Gas has gone up 20 cents a gallon here in the last week and a half - one must be practical.

General Fox T-Bird/Cougar Discussion / Roof racks for a TBird ?
I'd love to have some roof racks for that occasional trip to the home supply depot to pick up a few 2x4's.  Has anyone had any luck finding some that fit on an '83-'88 Thunderbird ?  It would be nice to have something to throw a couple of snowboards on as well.  I was considering trying to make my own brackets I could screw into the inside of the top of the door jamb.  Any thoughts ?

Body/Appearance/Interior / Ideal solution for broken grille?
Wire ties and a screw gun !  No, just kidding.  Wish you were closer to me;  I have a header panel and an almost new grille that I took off my "Sport" ( replaced with a turbocoupe header panel).  There must be a junk yard nearby where u can get them cheap.

Body/Appearance/Interior / Taillight Emblem Removal ?
Oh, man.  I was afraid they were going to be like stink on a monkey to get rid of.  Curse those Ford designers !  Whoever was in charge of Thunderbird emblems in the Fox years went a little overboard.  Meanwhile, in the Mustang department, you couldn't find a horse emblem anywhere.  I guess I will just get out the satin black paintbrush and try to make them a little less noticeable.

Body/Appearance/Interior / Taillight Emblem Removal ?
Has anyone ever tried to remove the bird emblems from '87-'88 taillights ?  I would really like to give it a shot, but I don't want to wreck a good set of taillights.
