Engine Tech / won't stay running
im using the factory duraspark module and with an inline spark tester i have spark when it dies and after it dies, i dont know how good the spark is, but the light bulb in my tester maintains  the same intensity.

i was wondering what kind of effect my vacuum advance control on the distributor may have on my problem, i put a vacuum pump on it and will not hold any vacuum, i then took it off, and blew through it with my mouth, i assume that the diaphram is toast.

wouldnt this cause a vacuum leak?  is the vacuum advance crucial to engine management?

i figured that if the advance was cooked, that it would just suffer a bad flat spot or hesitation when you punch the throttle.

again, many thanks for any advice, i am actually losing sleep over this one.

Engine Tech / won't stay running
hey guys, just looking for a little help here, i have an '83 cougar that was a 3.8 until i swapped in an '86 fuel injected 5.0, i also swapped it over to carb,

it has an edelbrock performer rpm intake and a holley 4 barrel, i just took it out of the paint booth after doing complete body job, now it runs for 20 minutes or so then quits, i wait 10 minutes, and it starts again, then shuts off again

i have spark right up to the last revolution of the crankshaft, my fuel pump has 6 psi when cranking the engine (mechanical pump)

i did change the pick up coil, but it didnt fix it, i pulled the fuel lines off when it quit and they dumped all kinds of fuel out, took the float bowls off, and they dumped all kinds of fuel out, when it starts to die, i can keep it running for a little while by feathering the throttle, but it eventually dies away even after that.

my idea is that something spontaneously went wrong with the carb,  but this is unlikely due to the lack of many moving parts inside a holley,

any other ideas? i would really like to bark up the RIGHT tree sometime soon.

thanks
