LEADS on T-Bird/Cougar Stuff For Sale / 2 full console 1987 LS's
Quote from: White85GS;436383
A carbed one is 5 times worse.

The CFI is fuel injection...of sorts.  ;-)  Been very reliable, for me (got 260K on mine), but yeah, it's painfully slow.  Good torque right off line, tho!  (About 'till you get across the intersection, then not much after that...)  But, mine will accelerate UP hill (moderate incline) in OD due to that low torque curve...I do like that.  I have the consolette interior, but other than that mine looks exactly the same...too bad my EXTERIOR is much worse!

T-Bird/Cougar Parts & Cars WANTED / Hood release cable
Anybody know where I can either get a hood release cable or have one you'd like to part with?  The cable corroded up just recently on my DD that I'm still trying to get rid of so I need to replace that before I can sell it.  I'd like to get the cable and interior pull lever as one of my mount studs is broken off.  I think my latch is fine, but if you've got the entire item, I'll take it all if that's how you want to sell it.

Oh, yeah, and the gas tank started leaking, too.  :/  Car must know I'm trying to sell it!

Thanks!

Greg

T-Bird/Cougar Parts & Cars FOR SALE / Turbo Coupe "Snowflake" Wheels 16 in, with Tires and Center Caps
Sorry to hijack the thread, but since I'm much closer to IL than CA, thought I'd let you know that I have a set of 4 that have been bead blasted and the faces polished.  They aren't finished or finished polished, but look real nice as-is.  If one took time and polished them more, you'd have a mirror finish in no time (the hard work has been done).  Have the tires, too....about 50% tread left.  PM me, I can send a photo if you're interested.

T-Bird/Cougar Parts & Cars FOR SALE / 87 Cougar LS For Sale
Other than some personal items, I'm selling the car as-is.  So, yes, the stereo comes with it.  (Along with a 1 1/4" receiver hitch with 2 receivers, for example)

The stereo is not anything real extravagant, just something nice I put together that I liked.  As previously mentioned it has the Pioneer CD head unit (which is only a little over a year old) and includes a SiriusXM satellite tuner with antenna.  Mounted below that in the dash is the Pioneer 15-band digital EQ.  I have Cerwin-Vega 6.5" separates up front (with custom tweeter pods I made for the inside of the doors opposite the mirrors).  There are Optimus 6"x9"s in the rear deck (back when Radio Shack made some decent car audio components).  In the trunk is a Crunch Audio (not sure if they're even made anymore) 4-channel amplifier running both sets of speakers.  Basic specs on the amp are below:

Crunch Audio "Drive Series" V-3004 300W Bridgeable 4-channel Amplifier
75W x 4 @ 4 ohms 1kHz, 0.03% THD
125W x 4 @ 2 ohms 1kHz, 0.05% THD
250W x 2 @ 4 ohms (Bridged), 0.05% THD
S/N Ratio >90 dB
Channel Separation >98 dB
Frequency Response 10 Hz - 40 kHz

Not exceptional specs, but adequate for what I had in mind.

I'm pretty sure you can look up the Pioneer components on their website for complete information.

HU:  Pioneer DEH-X9500BHS
EQ:  Pioneer DEQ-7600

T-Bird/Cougar Parts & Cars FOR SALE / 87 Cougar LS For Sale
I've decided to sell my daily driver.  It's been a great reliable car for the last 14 years, but with our 9 month old adopted daughter a 4-door car is more "family friendly".  I'm seeing if there is any interest here before I consider donating it or whatever I can come up with.  We have 4 vehicles and only a 2 car garage/driveway and I need to free up space.

The particulars:

1987 Mercury Cougar LS
3.8L V-6
266,000 miles
PW / PL
6-way power driver's seat

The Good:

  • Daily driven and very reliable (last major trip was Lake Superior Circle tour from Kansas in 2011 (2500+ miles) flawless drive)
  • Interior in very good condition (rear seat like new)
  • Clear headlight / marker lenses (I bought them from Ford about 10 years ago when they were still available...they have held up well)
  • All electrical accessories work
  • Transmission strong...can accelerate in OD easily...doesn't slip...tranny just flushed last Spring (filter and pan gasket replaced also)
  • I have complete repair/oil change history from work I did or mechanics for the last 14 years
  • Pioneer head units (DEH-X9500BHS CD RDS Receiver with Sirius XM satellite antenna, DEQ-7600 15-band DSP Equalizer)
  • Newer battery, alternator, steering rack (fast ratio), p/s pump, starter

Known issues:

  • A/C no longer works (all components there, but compressor is shot)
  • Heater core has small leak (still heats fine, but you get antifreeze smell and defrost fogs up windshield on damp days)
  • Front and rear main engine seals weep some oil
  • Fuel gauge registers 1/3 after complete fill-up...after 50-75 miles, comes back to correct reading and is accurate for rest of tank of fuel
  • Seat latches started "catching" - when you sit in them, they "pop" back into place (only happens if you have folded the seat forward)
  • Font seat belt sleeves deteriorated & buckle receivers should be re-built (spring on driver side lets loose occasionally)
  • Wiper motor just started sticking once in a while (wipers stay in "down" but "on" position instead of fully down)
  • All body panels from the beltline down are starting to rust out...I last did body work 3 years ago and it would be more than I'm capable of doing now

Photos attached

Car is in Olathe, Kansas (suburb of Kansas City).

Asking $750 / best offer

I have a fair amount of parts that I may sell separately or to a potential buyer we can work something out.  (full set of near mint taillights, (4) blasted and polished snowflake rims, numerous excellent condition trim pieces, near mint turn signal lenses, odds/ends)

Thanks for looking!  I'd like to see her go to a fellow Fox lover, if possible :D

Miscellaneous For Sale/Wanted / 2006 Lincoln LS (V8)
Thanks for all the posts guys. Good to know of potential trouble areas. I've always done my own servicing on the Cougar...but I know newer vehicles are harder to work on. Though my Cougar has been a great daily driver its now in need of a lot of body work beyond my capabilities as well as fix a/c and main engine seals. Those major repairs to me are not worth doing to a 26 year old car that is very hard to find parts for now. After 13 years as my DD I just feel its time for something newer. I want to go Rwd and V8 in a sedan and be sporty...so to stay w/ the Ford family the LS is where I think its at. Not interested in the size of a crown Vic...or lack of handling.

Miscellaneous For Sale/Wanted / 2006 Lincoln LS (V8)
Guess this would go here.  I'm looking for a low mileage (under 50K preferred), one owner (preferred) 2006 Lincoln LS (might consider a 2005 with the right options and preferably a LSE).  I'd like to have the Nav radio / THX audio system, but that is not a deal breaker.  Wood accents a must.  I'll consider any location in the US for the right vehicle, but it would be much easier to consider a car within about a 300 mile radius of Kansas City.

Just thought I'd post on here...I know its not a Fox car, but checking around all places I can think of.

Thanks!

This will be a replacement for my trusty daily driver Cougar in my sig, so if anyone would be interested I that car let me know, too.  Body is getting rough, but mechanically sound (I drive it daily to and from work and in 2011 took it on a 2500 mile Lake Superior Circle Tour...no issues whatsoever).  I have no qualms driving that car anywhere.  Interior is very clean and I have a fair collection of parts that can go with the car.  262,XXX miles.

Engine Tech / 3.8L Oil Leak
Well, I might do it.  Oil change was completed by the time I started this thread, but I could just "waste" a qt (or maybe try to save it...but oil is still relatively cheap) when taking the filter off and changing the gasket.  We'll see what the weather brings this weekend...

Engine Tech / 3.8L Oil Leak
Thx for the tips, guys!  I have made my own gaskets in the past with general material I bought and that's probably the best way to go with this situation.  Probably will be a Spring project now, as I doubt we'll be continuing to have 70^F days in December in KC much longer!
