On my 86 XR-7, It has a notch on the timing cover. Is this the TDC mark?
The entire tab is about three inches long and the notch is about 1/2 inch from the right hand side of it. (facing the engine from the front of the car) Then there are the deg. lines that run up and to the left to btdc.
The reason I ask is when I set my car to the 10btc it seems like it starts a little hard. When it hot you even get the starter lug like the timing is way to far advanced.
Is it possible that the oil seals in the turbo are leaking. My car made a tone of smoke off idle when the seal in the turbo went out. Full throttle still smoked but not near as bad.
I replaced the hose in my tank and it was good for a while and then developed a small leak around the connection where it was not tight enough. Mine was kinda doing the same thing. Leaning out under boost. Mine was earlier though. I could barely make 3000. had good pressure for idle but then when the regulator opened up the pressure dropped way off. You really need to get a gage on it.
hehe, Three months later, thanks. I have been doing mad man electrical work to the car and have not been to the site for a while. I found that I had a hole in the modulator valve that was causing it to shift late and that spring is not on my car. I will have to lookaround and get one. I hate when the passing gear dont work
They do look way better. That is kinda in my plans. I am putting together my build thread right now.
+1 on the turbines. Thats what I am going with. But I am powder coating mine. Good luck with the car. It looks nice already, Welcom to the cougar club.
No, real cars go fast, dont lose boost from having to let off to shift, dont hit rev limiters or over rev while shifting because you stayed in it while pushing the clutch in. =)
Not to mention you can build a c4 to smoke the t-5 on the track. Expensive but crazy shifting. And we can still be lazy and let the girlfriend drive home from the bar.
Sweet. Got it on jack stands now. i can see where it is supposed to be and the kickdown cable is sticking. A pic would still be cool if somebody has one.
Sounds to me like the EEC is activating the solenoid to step-up the idle. Question is why would it do that?
It is opening slightly even if it is unplugged. I had it off and on the bench. When you mate the sol and the valve, it opens about an 1/16". Maybe that is normal, I don't know. And yes I meant no engine light, I read on here somewhere before how to pull the codes. Not sure where it was at. Link?
Edit: I can pull codes tomorrow or maybe tonight and get that info back to ya!
I have no codes being thrown. Kinda why I am thinking iac. The car runs really well. Nice smooth pull through the rpm range. Just a high idle. Is the IAC supposed to be cracked open a little when unpluged?
Well oh great bitter one???? It was a typo much like the one you have there on line 6 of your reply. It was indeed .91 volts. Still does not explain it. I read plenty about how to set a tps, but thanks for the tip. I think the problem is in the iac, would anyone agree?
