User Rides / I'm still around... New toy
The tapping is most likely a worn cam lobe and lifter. Last year I bought a used 318 from craigslist, we could not start it but we were able to run a compression test. 175 cold in all 8 cylinders. $250 with the trans and it was home. The next weekend fired it up and had the same tapping noise on the pass side. Oil pressure was 65 and 18 inch of vacuum. Pulled the motor apart, timing chain was original with the plastic cam gear, cylinder walls looked good as did the bearings. Cam and lifters were shot. I replaced the cam bearings as the front one was pretty worn and my buddy at the machine shop helped me replace them without disassembling the short block. Installed Summits cam that was stock for the 340, new lifters, timing chain and new gaskets all the way around and the motor runs great!!! Here is a link for the entire build from firing it up the first time to the completed partial rebuild. http://s71.beta.photobucket.com/user/mrbill66malibu/library/Valiant

Lounge / FMX or C4?
Stay with the C4, it will be cheaper to build and will be stronger then the FMX.

Lounge / Being a Grandpa!!!
Vinnie,

Congrads to you and Gayle and the parents too. Just because you are a Grandpa has NOTHING to do with being old. I'll be 50 in 6 months and looking forward to the day I'll be "Grandpa". I work out twice a week and ride my bicycle 2-3x a week (20 -60+miles). I can out run,out walk and out work kids 30 yrs my junior. Being a Grandparent is a HONOR not a sign of being old. Being called any other name doesn't remove the fact of what you are. I say enjoy and embrace it!!!

Did you actually buy it from Pick a Part? I thought that barcode sticker looked familiar.

Lounge / Am I the only one???
I named Anthony's car the "TwiceBird"  because we seem to do everything at least 2x if not more. Yes we run into the same problems with things not going smoothly. I have been doing this stuff for over 30 yrs and it has always been that way!!! and I still do it!!! LOL

Lounge / Furnace problem... my family is very lucky
I have been it the HVAC business for 30+yrs. I have seen that happen a time or two, sounds like the gas valve was leaking internally while the unit was not running and the next time it went to light...BOOM. You have a great company that went ahead and replaced it without giving you a bunch of red tape. My hat is off to them they make our profession proud!!! Glad you are all ok and yes always have a co monitor anytime you have a fuel burning furnace.

I have been in the HVAC business all my life. I would truly recommend some type of vented system. Those CO levels are never what the companies claim and the ones I have measured are close to 120 ppm and higher in a 1 hour time span. Not good!!!! Here are several suggestions. This one is very affordable http://www.nuwaystove.com/model4000.php  http://www.2kstore.com/gragr/heater/ghtr5.htm http://www.farmtek.com/farm/supplies/prod1;ft1_heaters_accessories-ft1_modine_heaters;8ea678ea.html

It's funny you mentioned electrical, I saw the old porcelain  in one of the pics. That garage even had electricity back in the day!!!! Looks great!! What are you doing about heat? I built a oil furnace for mine about 12yrs ago from parts we had laying around the shop and use two 5 gal diesel fuel containers so there is no big tank outside. 5 gals is good for 3-4 full working days in the shop. I don't know how I used to do it before... ah youth!!! lol
