User Rides / My "official" 1987 Mercury Cougar XR-7 Thread UPDATED 3/30/14
Nice Cougar!

That same alarm was in my Mark VII when I got it.  The guy that sold those things in the '80s must have retired nicely!

I replaced the antenna mast on my car with an ebay unit and it works fine, but it drops down too far when closed.  I think I'd look for a correct used part if I had to do it again.

I gave the "O.K." to go ahead and weld up the c-pillar mounting holes for the emblems, and weld up the antenna hole on the fender. I may purchase a hidden antenna later. I am not installing one of those little fins on the Sport's roof.

I put this one in my truck and it actually gives better reception than the stock antenna.  I think it was $20 or $25.

"A record 84.5% of people acquiring cars in the second quarter financed the deals with loans or leases, Experian said on Tuesday. That is up from 79.7% in 2008.

The shifts came as average credit scores for new car loans from all lenders fell for the fourth consecutive year.

U.S. banks made 36% of their car loans to subprime borrowers in the second quarter, up from 34% a year earlier, according to data from Experian."

There's no guarantee the person who bought this car is wealthy.  I worked at a dealership for a few years and I quickly learned that an expensive car doesn't always equal high income.  Often the people who can least afford the expensive rides are the most willing to go into debt for the status.

There's also a very good possibility the car was leased.  Or maybe someone took a very long term note.  Dealers are now working loans with terms up to 97 months.  Sure a good portion of those loans will default, but the bankers will get their bonuses today and thier bailouts tomorrow.

If you're trying to destroy an engine, crankcase makes more sense and that was what I heard was supposed to be done with the CFC cars.  I suppose there's a few ways to wreck an engine that will get the job done.

User Rides / Now we have 4 cars floating around.
That has to be the nicest $800 car I've ever seen.

If you're thinking of replacing the seats, keep a lookout for some 1st gen LSC seats with the thigh bolsters and larger headrests.  Most people who have tried both prefer them.
